How to add your website to Google

How to add your website to Google

Once you've created a website, the odds are you will want people to be able to find it by searching in Google.

Where your website shows up in Google search results depends on a lot of factors - and it can be quite difficult to make your website appear as the very first result. You can, however, speed up the process of being listed in Google's search results by letting them know that your website is ready to be added. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Visit http://www.google.com/addurl/
  2. In the 'URL' box, type in your website address. For example, http://www.vicnet.net.au.
  3. In the 'Comments' box, you can enter a short description of what your website is about.
  4. Finally, you will need to enter the code that's displayed in the last box to prove you are a real person.
  5. Click on the 'Add URL' button.

Do I need to submit every single page to Google?

No - you only need to add your website once. Submit the link to your homepage, and Google will be able to find the rest of the pages as well.

Will my website show up in Google straight away?

No, it may take days or weeks for Google to index your website. You only need to submit it once however, so just be patient and check back every so often to see if your website has been listed.
